The Jacobite Revolt in Scotland in 1745 led to an important turning point in British history when thousands of Highlanders lost their lives in the defense of the House of Stuart and an independent Scotland. During the 18th century, the Jacobite supporters who gathered in secret to honor their (now defeated) "Bonnie Prince Charlie" came toasting their "king across the water" with their Jacobite whiskey glass.
