Which type of wool should I choose? The pros and cons of wool blankets

 “Which type of wool should I choose?” We often get this question and therefore a compact explanation of the advantages and disadvantages of each wool type.

To start with a few general characteristics of wool:

• All wool blankets are very durable. Not only do they last a long time, wool is a natural, renewable material in itself.
• Colourfast. Wool is a material that retains the color well so that it does not discolour.
• Wool is timeless. We often hear: "Oh, we used to have a blanket like that at home." But of course, in addition to the traditional patterns, there are also more and more new designs.
• Wool is easy to maintain. 'Wool cleans itself' well, not entirely of course, but this statement comes from the fact that wool itself does not retain dirt. Nowadays, many blankets can be washed on a wool program with wool detergent (check the washing instructions) but we are still a bit old-fashioned... Just air them outside or if it snows again: Take the plaid outside into the snow, pat it out, Dry naturally (not near a heat source) and you will have a wonderfully fresh plaid again. That's how our grandparents did it with woolen products.
• And perhaps the most important general characteristic of wool... nice and warm...

• 100% new wool,other: These are often the blankets with a more modern design and are airy woven, flexible and soft, with favorable pricing.
• Recycled wool: Extra sustainable because these blankets are made from old blankets that, together with some new materials, are completely rewoven into new blankets. Characteristic is a high density (feels a bit like felt), at first it feels slightly stiffer, but that quickly disappears and then the blanket feels soft.
• Lambswool (Shetland & Merino): these blankets are often more expensive, but for that you get an extra thin blanket that feels wonderfully soft.
